Lawarren Taylor Sr. (Witnessing For Christ at the Workplace)
By T. Semakula
And Blessed, these are the very attributes of LaWarren Taylor Sr. –father, husband, licensed optician , and a perfect example of what it means to be a witness for Christ at the workplace.
Lawarren is kind and available. He goes out of his way to provide the best service as he meets the needs of the clients who come in to inquire about the proper or corrective eyewear at 20/20 Eyecare. On the day that I came in to interview him, LaWarren is stationed behind a counter, his smile welcomes me, along with the gospel music that flows from a player. A small bulletin board sits on the wall behind him, covered with pictures of his family and friends. For over twenty years, Lawarren has greeted clients in this manner.
The spirit of the Lord is in this place. I feel it when I enter LaWarren’s workplace. I see it in the faces of his coworkers, who are more than happy to escort me to Lawarren’s counter. I hear it in the praises of his clients who stop in to visit and say hello.
But it’s LaWarren, who is the ultimate reminder of the power of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As Christians, we are commanded to serve others, willfully and without complaint. What a perfect example I see in him as he continues to make his clients his first priority, halting the interview, so that he can assist a client with a selection of new eyeglasses. LaWarren’s passion for Christ spills out in humility as he is the first to give credit to the most High. I am curious as to why he felt the need to be a witness at work. His answer- I wanted to share the love of Jesus with everyone, once I became born again…how could I keep it to myself?
I ask him what advice does he have for others who would like to witness, effectively, in the workplace, for this, he responds with only one word…obedience.
